3.61 | Pritam should experiment a little more of this tempo and the Tabla. One of the 'musalsal' songs of the year. -Nishant Love! -Neha The lyrics offend my sensibilities somewhat. Phrases like “dil kah raha use muyassar kar bhi aao” are little more than meaningless word-play. Still, the music and singing more than make up for any shortcomings in the lyrics. Both the male version and the female version are excellent, but I vastly prefer the male version. -UVR Very expressive, amazing voice for a young singer! (Why Shafaqat Amanat's version is not there is a surprise). -Naresh OK orchestration and lyrics, but poor singing. -Ashok Finally! A song from Barfi that doesn't make me grit my teeth. I wish Pritam had scaled back on orchestration and stuck with just a few instruments, but that's just a quibble. Love the composition and the leisurely rendition. -Shalini Lovely song, very well written, composed, arranged and sung. The track draws you into its spell early on and never lets go. -Manish No words, Pritam has excelled himself. -Vinayakam Sounds better than the female version. -Aditya An extra point for Pritam for surprising us. It uses a classical template and there's no twist. The vocals carry the song through with the strings accompanying. The lyrics are one of the best of the year and the song gives you hope about music in Hindi films -Subrat The singing is impactful. The fact that the young singer is being nominated along with Rekha Bharadwaj for the same song's version is worth a notice. -Harshit |

3.34 | Mindboggling vocals by Shankar Mahadevan; the simple, evocative tune helps in bringing it out well. -Karthik Well sung. Actually, all parts work well together. -Ashok Sarod adds a definitive character to this song. Great surprise from SEL -Aditya Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy ne ek hi maara par solid maara. Gets my brownie points for the use of Sarod and Prasoon Joshi's "Shabd bikharane waale" lyrics. -Nishant Shankar Mahadevan delivers a stunner - tune and singing both are top grade. -Naresh I hadn't heard of this song and I was pleasantly surprised to discover it. Shankar's singing is restrained and the sarod complements the vocal very well. -Subrat Uninspiring tune and for the most part Shankar Mahadevan sounds like he feels the same way. -Armeen Bageshri for Bageshri's sake :-) – that's the best description I can come up with for this song. Still, the tune is good and the orchestration pretty nice. The singing is somewhat gratuitous; Shankar should make an effort NOT to sing his own songs. But then the lyrics are very nice, with their vivid imagery (“sannaTo.n kii choTii khee.ncho”), and inspite of the awkward (wrong) pronunciations (“*itar* ki shiishii”?), I liked it enough to give it a 4. -Vikas Old world charm. Apt to the movie. -Vinayakam I appreciate the relatively uncluttered instrumentation and the classical-based melody but I wish SEL had gotten someone other than Shankar Mahadevan to sing it. -Shalini One genre that SEL's music and Shankar Mahadevan's singing always work is the semiclassical one. Bolo Na is another proof. -Vipin An almost perfect song with excellent music, lyrics and singing. Though it doesn't get any five as there is nothing too exceptional either. -Harshit Great composition, brilliant singing! -Renu |

3.29 | Some what reminiscent of tunes from the 70s, which is when the film is supposed to be set (for no apparent reason, based on the synopsis) - but the orchestration and voices don't match the period and take away from what could have been a song worth something. -Armeen A track outlining the simple pleasures and aptly underscored by the music. -Nishant Pritam scores and how! The accordion led opening is superb. The rhythm is supported by flute. Shreya is dripping honey and Nikhil Paul George despite mangling the Hindi language badly and with an untrained voice hold your attention. -Subrat Brilliant music and singing, in sync with the film's overall theme. -Karthik The song has too many bits and pieces of other songs, to be given enough credit of its own. -Renu I liked this song very much. It embodies a childlike simplicity and innocence that I found very endearing. -UVR Nice tune. The female singer sings better. -Vikas Words like 'itti si hansi, itti si khushi' help establish the innocence that is asked for. Shreya's singing helps the same cause. -Manish Transports you to a different world. -Vinayakam Annoyingly chirpy. -Shalini Lovely on all fronts. -Vipin Fantastic song, fits very well within the film! -Aditya Good use of the accordion; the song tends to become a little cloying at times. -Ramanand Nicely tuned, well written, and adequately sung. -Naresh |

3.25 | Interesting lyrics, decent tune, but the singing didn't impress me much at all. This song has “cult favorite” written all over it. 40 years from now, people will be trading its digitized copies on online forums. -UVR The defiance in the poetry finds strong expression in Piyush Mishra's voice and in the strident arrangements. The song lends great depth to the album. -Ramanand Mishraji is a talented man - he gets the idiom of the film, the slightest sense of hope in a blighted setup and he renders it with sensitivity. -Subrat Piyush Mishra blending all his theater experience in the singing and the lyrics to pack quite a 'punch' even in a lullaby. It has been a while since a lullaby sounded so philosophical and full of hope not losing the present in sight. -Nishant Piyush Mishra's show all the way! -Karthik Unusual works here. -Ashok Piyush Mishra has created a stunner. -Naresh He's become a genre. To me, all his songs have some similarity. Still he manages to keep things different. Through arrangements and lyrics. In this song, it's the lyrics that make the best part of the song. -Vikas Evocative singing by Piyush Mishra and simple lyrics too. -Vinayakam Very interesting! I don't know if I actually like the song, but it's certainly memorable and arresting. -Shalini Good lyrics. -Aditya Interesting… but why the caricaturish singing? -Armeen Piyush Mishra strikes again. The flute, sitar and violins all do their bit to put his voice and the lyrics centrestage and we have ourselves a treat! Is this Kalavati? -Renu |

3.08 | A song that charms you with its simplicity. -Vipin Good first attempt by Ayushman. -Aditya A nice unassuming melody that comes together in all departments. -Ramanand Scintillaring! -Naresh The 2nd best song of 2012 - earthy, simple and immensely hummable -Karthik Lovely! Everything works for the song. -Neha Tender voice, sweet lyrics and lovely orchestration makes this work awesomely! -Renu This song would have been helped tremendously if the singer had just taken a few vocal lessons. -Armeen Good enough song, but I can't related to Panjabi-mixed Hindi. -Vikas The genius of the year, Ayushman Khurana. -Vinayakam Again with the Punjabi lyrics…sigh. -Shalini Acoustic strumming + adequate singing + touchy lyrics make a nice blend for a debutant to really strike a chord! -Nishant The singing is a bit flawed but that's what works for the song. You relate more to the song because of it. It's a simple quiet composition and Ayushmann, the singer, carries it well especially in enunciating the words. -Subrat With one person composing, writing, singing, the song gets a balance here and hence the balanced ratings. -Harshit I have no idea why this song became so popular. Not that it's bad or anything, but SO MUCH PRESS?! -UVR |

3.08 | One of Pritam's best ever songs, well written lines and a brilliant vocal effort. -Vipin Undescribable. -Vinayakam Pleasant but not overly sweet. -Shalini Lyrics stand out in this soothing composition. -Aditya A fresh crisp voice (Papon) lending the song most of its soul. Could have been better without Sunidhi Chauhan's piece. -Nishant There's an old world feel to the song. Pritam is again top notch in his instrumentation. The singing is passable. -Subrat Package song. The light mood the music has, is reflected equally in the lyrics and the singing as well. The second half's lyrics are especially noticeable. -Manish After some time all barfi songs sounds the same. -Vikas I want to know what drug or drink Pritam was on when he composed the music for Barfi! – he's gone far beyond all my expectations for sure. This song has grown on me with every listen. It helps, of course, to have good lyrics. -UVR |

3.07 | Great rendition by Sukhwinder - passionate yet controlled. -Shalini Sukhvinder hits the mark with this one. -Naresh Stellar singing by Sukhwinder and the acoustic guitars! Enough to make it work! -Renu A piece that stands out from the rest of the album. Brilliantly adding rock to Sukhwinder's energy-singing. -Nishant An above average composition complemented by the competent vocals of Sukhi. -Subrat Good composition, but why so cluttered? And serioulsy I am getting sick of these ring tone type schizophrenic musical arrangements. -Armeen Orchestration nearly killed it! -Vikas Love! -Neha |

3.03 | This is the song of the year for me. The female voice (Shalmali K) who I heard for the first time on this album is fantastic. Just the way she picks up the tempo from the start and builds it up to the song hook Pareshaan is worth everything any other female singer has sung during the year. AT is at his inventive best esp the harmonium interludes -Subrat In my mind, the best song of 2012; a wonderful blend of vocals, lyrics and music in perfect concoction! -Karthik One of the best debuts in recent times from a singer, complimented by a brilliant arrangement from Amit Trivedi and some lovely lines by Kausar Munir. -Vipin Love the way the songs gradually builds up to the refrain of "main pareshaam'. Harmonium works well in the orchestration. -Aditya Average lyrics and singing but top-class composing. Take a bow Amit Trivedi. -Nishant Not very often that you find female-voiced rock songs in Hindi film music. -Renu गीत एक ख़ास तरह का सुरूर लिए है. एक अच्छी कम्पोजिशन ... मानो 'धीमी आंच' सा सुलगता हुआ. जिसमे हारमोनियम के साथ साथ वेस्टर्न इंस्ट्रुमेंट्स का बेहद सुलझे हुए अंदाज़ में इस्तेमाल हुआ है. -Vikas Amazingly Fresh voice. -Vinayakam Rock meets rural romance in this guitar-backed song that stands out in its presentation. The singing is spectacular, alternating between the quieter portions and the heavy, rock segments. -Ramanand Well made and Shalmali traverses this song competently. -Naresh Music is impactful. Use of Harmonium is exemplary, very effective. Singing is novel, impactful, and the voice well used. -Harshit Mannered singing and the intrusive chorus of pareshaa.N didn't work for me. -Ashok |

2.92 | Soulful! -Naresh Best song in the soundtrack. Minimalistic arrangements are the highlight. -Aditya Not a simple composition but ordinary singing. -Nishant Ajay Atul are spare through most of this song and then up the ante at the climax. It is a song that is arranged beautifully. Roop Kumar Rathod sings it with the right degree of pathos. -Subrat itna chillana kyun! music again overdone and cluttery and noisy. the melody is good and could have worked, but for the arrangement. -Neha Appreciate a modern but discernably Indian tune - nothing spectacular though. -Armeen Satisfactory song. Lyrics takes some risks. -Manish The composition is a tad too ornate with all the sweeping notes but Rathod's rendition is commanding. -Shalini Another beautiful song sung by Roopkumar Rathod, keeping with his tradition of singing quality songs. -Vipin Marking it 4.5 despite the fact I love abhi mujh mein kahin much more. I guess that's the tough part of this. Deciding things above your favorites. Love all the elements of this song. Lovely Tabla and marvelous lyrics. Complete package. -Harshit The singing, lyrics and music all come together making the whole greater than the sum of its parts. -Vikas Roop Kumar Rathod does a great job with the tune. -UVR |

2.83 | Fab singing by Sona Mohapatra and excellent music by Ram Sampath as well -Karthik Tugs at heart! -Naresh Outright raag Khamaaj - what's going on?! Btw, is the crazy westernized beat mandatory for every song these days? Do they not give the censor board certificate without it? Frankly this could have been better fusionized. -Armeen The lyrics were too Javed Akhtar-y. Hardly a surprise considering they were written by Javed Akhtar. -Vikas Brilliant fusion of drums & bass genre with Indian classical. And the ever-reliable Sona Mohapatra doing the rendition alongside an equally super Ravindra Upadhyay. -Manish One of the year's best. Ram Sampath rocks. -Vinayakam Although it has it's moments (like the Tabla bols) this attempt at fusion music never really comes together. -Shalini beautiful composition. the tone is sad, but the arrangement adds a sense of urgency and uncertainty, in sync with the situation. -Aditya Both voices work very well with each other and have the advantage of not being run-of-the-mill. The tempo of the beats works as a nice counterpoint to the opening of the song. -Ramanand Unique in the sense of the genre but lacking a punch both in the lyrics and the vocals. -Nishant I like the song especially the semi classical touch in the arrangement. The singing is competent too -Subrat Liked the tune, but found the orchestration unsuitable. -Ashok The debutant singer Ravindra Udadhyay is impactful, though he sounds a lot like Sukhwinder Singh only. -Harshit Somehow I dont like Sona's voice...sounds nasal...Rekha bharadwaj would have sounded so much better. Ravindra sounds so much better relatively! -Neha |

2.81 | Loved the way the English words are woven into the song; it never feels too gimmicky. The gentle guitar plucking adds to the emotion of the song and the singing is kept very simple, making this is a very unconventional Hindi film song. -Ramanand It is the arrangement and the lyrics that rule in this fun track. Sneha's singing may not be perfect, but works totally for this one. -Vipin This is the Song of the year for me along with the Barfi title song. So inspirational. -Vinayakam The Calypso sound, the mandolin and the utterly cute Hinglish lyrics make this song work! -Renu Very catchy. -Manish Funny and uplifting in it's own sly way. -Shalini Like most songs in this film, I wouldn’t want to hear it outside of the film, no matter how unusual the song might be. -Aditya Songva ka jawab dhundiyaye nahi milega! Vocabulary changing catchy number. -Nishant Catchy energetic composition. -Vikas |

2.81 | A lovely tune and a beautiful song, this. Ajay-Atul live up to their reputation as excellent tunesmiths. Sonu Niigaam (or however he's spelling his name these days) really needs to turn down the over-emote knob. Fortunately, he's somewhat ok here, but I've heard recordings of him singing this song live, and those are seriously better than the official film soundtrack. -UVR Good to hear Sonu again but the song is nothing special. -Shalini Good tune and for the most part logical orchestration (especially given the present company)… wish Sonu would not be so tempted to over emote. -Vikas pungii and this has the same lyricist. Nice to see the different shades of Amitabh Bhattacharya. -Renu Sonu should sing more. -Manish Nicely composed by Ajay-Atul and the lyrics definitely take the song to a new level. Sonu Nigam's singing is nothing new considering his standards. -Nishant Lovely tune, soothing composition. Sonu is also sufficiently retrained, although he jars a bit in the higher notes -Aditya Vibrato in Sonu's voice continues to irritate ! Nicely tuned by Ajay- Atul -Naresh This is a good composition marred by a style of signing that has gotten repetitive. One can almost see Sonu Nigam overacting while singing it -Subrat Sonu has been the king of soulful melodies, and he delivers this too perfectly. Add to that Ajay Atul's brilliant use of orchestral arrangement which has been their forte. -Vipin I marked 4.5 on singing, but I guess I can't expect singing to be better than this in the song. So it's a Five! As for music, I have heard such music before, but it's rare these days and the extremity it wants to touch in chhoo loon zara deserves something more. -Harshit |

And Vishal Shekhar have done well with their rock fusion-based arrangement. -Vipin The touch of traditional instruments, like Manjeera, in Rock, is worth an appreciation. -Harshit Guitar riffs, tabla and the sounds of the manjira! And that voice! -- Ufff! Magic! -Renu Ghastly orchestration. -Vikas |

Composition-wise, it is interesting. -Aditya A pleasant surprise to hear this Bengali folk-style song; nice but conventional composition and arrangements. Could it have benefited from an even more accomplished singer? -Ramanand Classic example of a composer singing his own composition and giving it a special touch. The flute and the beat need a special mention too. -Manish For once, a “strangely” inflected voice gets full points from me. This was the perfect sound for this song. -UVR Amit Trivedi's best. -Vinayakam Amit Trivedi catches the anxiety of the character well, fits well in movie too and sounds great otherwise -Naresh AT, the singer, to the fore and he doesn't disappoint -Subrat Lovely! 2.75 | From bagpipes to french horns, from shehnai to cello, this man has done it all and not just done but done in a way that pleases the ears. Well done Amit Trivedi. -Nishant Lovely lyrics and brilliantly sung by Shilpa Rao. -Karthik A decent song marred by anglicized singing. -Aditya Beautiful lyrics wrapped around a rock number gives us a winner. -Renu Quite well sung. -Ashok Soothing. -Vinayakam She starts of just fine with “*g*ustaaKh dil” and then for some completely unfathomable reason moves on to saying “*Gh*ustaaKh dil”! Bzzt – MINUS TWO points, yeh lo! This one blemish on the otherwise spotless landscape of this song makes me want to get up and strangle Shilpa for the silly accent and Amit Trivedi for not making her go back and redo it. -UVR Sigh…even sad, musing songs sound peppy nowadays. -Shalini Enjoyed the measured guitar riffs in this song, which elevated it to a very listenable number -Ramanand Sawanad Kirkire's words get a good support from Shilpa Rao and Amit Trivedi, Overall very good song. -Naresh This is clearly a genre that AT gets. And, he has Shilpa Rao for vocals. Not many things can go wrong for there on. And, they don't. -Subrat Shilpa Rao and Amit Trivedi coming together to create a magic akin to what Amit did in Lehrein. -Vipin |

2.68 | Almost missed this terrific "signature-filled" song thanks(!) to it being eclipsed by the terrible and terribly famous item number from this film? The representative of each department leaves his or her indelible stamp of brilliance on it: the tune and orchestration is quintessentially Amit Trivedi, the lyrics unmistakably Amitabh Bhattacharya, and the voice ... ah the voice! The use of the nadaswaram sound in the orchestration is just perfect for the character singing the song. -UVR Brilliant use of Shehnai in a waltzy composition. -Nishant Nice orchestration. Refresingly free of "big sound". -Vikas In an otherwise waccky album, this was a sweet song sung beautifully by Shreya. -Vipin The prelude is a lot like Dev Chanda Themes from Amit's own Dev.D. -Harshit Easy on the ears, usage of shehnai (?) is unique. -Manish Brilliantly done. Old world charm. -Vinayakam Love the pacing of the song, Shreya's light yet assured singing and the orchestration -Shalini Do we need any more of these? -Armeen Arrangement is wonderful, and Shreya delivers a virtuoso performance. -Naresh There's nothing to recommend this song. Shreya is predictably and boringly saccharine sweet. The santoor does perk you up a bit. But, barely -Subrat |

2.67 | The song is an aural delight with a medley of sounds, voices that Pritam has arranged really well. Mohit Chauhan isn't nasal and seems to be having fun. It is an item number without an item -Subrat The zany vibe seems forced and I wish someone more animated than Mohit had sung this -Shalini I guess they are trying to do something different (not that this hasn't been done before), but unfortunately it's just not working for me. -Armeen The song tells a story, reaches its objective in that way, and keeps things interesting and fun. All that goes in favor of lyrics. The music isn't exceptional, but again, it helps the song reach its objective, which is not really to bring one to trance. It's to make you enjoy the song, and that's fulfilled. -Harshit To create music that fits into the milieu of this film, Pritam steps outside his comfort zone, but still delivers. -Manish Brilliant song. Swanand sang it better IMHO - more open voice. Imaginative lyrics. -Vinayakam Very good composition, the accordion sets an apt backdrop -Aditya -Vikas One of Pritam's better compositions and Swanand's expressive lyrics voice if for the mute 'Barfi'. Swanand's alternate version sounds much more natural. -Nishant Catchy phrases make the song interesting ! -Naresh Catchy and cute! -Neha This is the kind of song that works very well as it accompanies the visuals on screen, but is just average/above average by itself. -UVR |

2.56 | Harshdeep delivers a stunner all the way. -Naresh The singing is sincere and Harshdeep Kaur is made for such songs. Again, an average track by ARR standards. -Subrat Harshdeep Kaur has never yet failed with a sufi-flavored song. Here too she does it with flair. ARR and Gulzar, though off-colour for most part of this album, showed some of their prowess here. -Vipin Adequate song. -Ashok Gulzar-ARR chemistry blended nicely in a smooth Punjabi number. -Nishant |

2.56 | As the song starts, it feels like Shreya is trying too hard to show that she can also do the “premi 75” type mujra song, but her voice is too sweet for that kind of a thing. But by the time the song ends, she gets into her comfort zone, and boy does she sound good. -UVR Exceptional singing! Shreya seems to have a discovered a whole new voice! -Renu I guess I like Shreya Ghoshal when she doesn't try to sound pure and sweet - a well executed mujara showcases her strengths much better (let's leave the art of 'unaffected simplicity' to the old masters - "nanhi kali sone chali" may never happen again). -Armeen Shreya's singing makes the song all the fun that it is. Not that it reduces the background things, but she's exceptionally good here. -Harshit The arrangement is good and AT again tweaks the folk template with his improvisation. Shreya surprises with a song that is unusual from her regular fare. -Subrat Veers too much into the flippant territory for my taste but Shreya sounds like she's having a ball. -Shalini Despite some cheesy lyrics, the song is appealing for its insouciance. The usage of traditional instruments is also appealing -Aditya Though technically good, I found the execution of this concept a little 'phony' – Shreya's rendition was not able to get rid of its urban taste. -Ramanand Shreya Ghoshal rendering almost-a-qawwali just brilliantly. -Nishant Shreya Ghoshal proving that even fast wacky numbers are not beyond her reach. -Vipin Doesn't jell for me. -Ashok |

-Vikas K.Mohan & Agnee had a good break this year. K.Mohan's vocals and the lyrics make it worth listening to again. -Nishant The female singer's unnecessary anglicized approach aside, the song proved to be a pleasant surprise. -Armeen Agnee's debut didn't disappoint. Aalaap was interesting album and this song stood out especially for its singers. Mohan was reliable but Meera Shenoy (Who? Where?) softly caressed the lyrics and raised the song a couple of notches. -Subrat Kitchen-sink approach to composing. -Ashok The perfect concert song; liked it a lot. -Shalini First time hear. Did not work for me at all. -Aditya One of the lesser known songs of the year, the depth in the song is a nice surprise. Good singing. -Ramanand Sub-par singing by female singer. Music dominates the lyrics, but surprisingly still not too bad. -Naresh An interesting mix of classical, rock and a cappella. The female vocalist could have been better but the male vocalist is very good. -Renu Music added too much noise and clutter! -Neha I had never heard this song, and it came as an utter surprise to me! The music and vocals are superb. The contrast between the kid voice and the “rivarimba” chorus at the beginning and end of the song is delicious. The 'honesty' (I can't describe it any other way) in the male lead's singing is exceptional. The lyrics are nothing outstanding, but do not fall short of the demands of the song in the least. Overall a brilliant song. -UVR |

2.51 | The mysterious song with the singer hinting at things beyond the known – this isn't a genre that we hear often in HFM these days. The depth in Suman Sridhar's almost-raspy voice provides a great canvas for the music and the lyrics. -Ramanand I can't get past the lazy vocals (even if they are trying to recreate the James Bond theme). -Armeen Ram Sampath is bit of a master of the retro, isn't he? Sumar Shirdhar is perfect for giving that 60s night club feel to the song. -Subrat Interesting song. MD's handling of percussion is again problematic. -Ashok Needed a little more modulation and the sensuous feel to elevate the composition to another level. -Vikas Hauntingly Seductive. -Vinayakam Lyrics are the highlight of the song. -Aditya Soulful. -Naresh |

I hear Shhahid Mallya again after Mausam and he's good. Should be heard more. -Subrat The lyrics of the song and the simplicity of arrangements are well accentuated by the simple and natural singing. -Harshit Preserving and presenting the Punjabi flavor in a way that soothes and pleases the ear. Beautifully rendered. -Subrat Lyrics are ok. Tries big sound but doesn't come off; both the tune and the singing are inadequate for that. -Ashok |

The vocals, the lyrics and the presentation are all in the superlative. -Nishant Start promisingly but fails to deliver in the end. Choice of non-professional 'singers' gives it a unique character. -Naresh The hook is more catchy and stays longer. In any case both Wumaniyaa and Kah Ke Loonga have trancended the songs to become part of Indian internet argot. -Subrat Again, 0.1 gets added simply for the novelty of the song. -Harshit This is folk reinvention at its best. But good that the lyrics take a bit of research to be understood. -Vinayakam I think I'm one of the few(?) who weren't impressed by this soundtrack. -Vikas |

2.44 | Only truly rustic sounding song in the film. The tune is a very common folk tune, but it is always nice to hear. -Manish From chutney to folk, from first timers to Padmashrees, from wedding songs to dark, caustic sompositions, real-life meeting reel-life at its very best. Getting a Padmashree folk singer to sing for you ----> Priceless! -Vikas Introducing the best of folk in a jazzed up avatar. Kudos! -Vinayakam Maybe it is because I can't get the picturization of this song from my head - this is a song that stays with you. Swanand's 'aadha-pauna' lyrics make it a little more special. -Nishant Please wake up! -Armeen The singer doesn't have the skill to pull off the whspering kind of sining. -Ashok I suppose there had to be at least one song in the film that got on my nerves: the singing does that here. There was no need for trying so hard. -Vikas One song that wouldn't be here without this touching singing. The music is kept very simple, and lyrics are lovely, but without the singing, they wouldn't do. -Manish Nice, mellow number. The portions where the music dies down are particularly effective at conveying grief and a sense of disbelief. -Shalini A song where the sum is greater than the parts. Ram Sampath takes a jingle-like tune and makes it sound like a real, full-fledged song! -UVR Again, lyrics fit the film's plot very well. -Aditya Well written lyrics and in the league of "Tu aashiqui hai" from "Jhankaar Beats". -Vikas Average track. -Subrat The arrangements are simple yet wonderful. Equally 'dark' in orchestration. -Nishant The darkness this song talks about, in such simple yet submitting words is rare. The voice annoyed me the first time I heard it but I must say it grows on you (annoyingy with all its rough edges). It sounds like a scratch song. But I will give an extra half point to Pritam just for his uncanny vocal casting ability. -Subrat I know I'll be in the minority for saying this, but I just don't like his voice. Why is he trying to be another Atif Aslam? One is bad enough. -Renu The same careless singing that seems to be the trend again this year… ugh! -Armeen Different voice...like! -Neha Utterly boring. -Vikas Interesting (though just above average) singing. Chhup karo! -Shalini Imperfect singing, but works well in the context of the film. -Aditya The singer does a nice job of expressing the helplessness of love; a nice rock-and-roll-ish song. -Ramanand New voice is well tapped. Captures the festive spirit of Indian weddings in a non-ostentatious (read non-filmy) manner. -Manish Kirkire breathing a different life in this adaption of a wedding song from Marathi folk. -Nishant Ratings have been given more on the arrangements and additions to the traditional song. My belief is that it's based on a traditional Marathi song. Would like to know if that's not true. -Vikas I guess I'm supposed to like this song because of the interesting singer credits, but sorry, it didn't impress me much at all. -UVR |

The lyrics get the high rating for the complete submission that is reflected in the song. -Harshit Catchy, some unusual lyrics, but the uniform rhythm gets boring after a while. -Aditya Neeraj Sridhar makes his appearance in this Pritam soundtrack but the only plus of the song is the pace at which it is set. -Nishant Highly enthusiastic song. -Karthik What nonsense?! -Armeen Catchy, especially the chorus. -Manish Points for the clever subversion of the devotional "tumhin ho bandhu sakha tumhin ho". -Shalini I wasn't completely taken with the mukhaDaa's mashing of the prayer. -Ramanand Addresses the target audience of school/ college/ party going crowd eminently well. -Naresh Apart from reconstructing a mujra, Pritam gave us this reconstructed bhajan as well. Again, Pritam's ability to choose the right voice elevates this song as Kavita Seth hits the high notes in the antaraa. The tune is familiar and addictive. Irshad Kamil who reserves his best for Pritam deserves a word of praise for the whole album. -Subrat |

2.23 | Rather disturbing number which I guess was the desired effect. -Shalini The song was obviously written to grab attention. For that reason, it failed to hold mine. -UVR 'Bicchhoo se honth kata ke, lori zehreeli ga ke' .. A deliciously vicious, daring and experimental number. Trivedi and Khanwalkar's singing and Mishra's writing -- simply brilliant! -Renu Crass! -Aditya From the get go, the song drips with portents of doom. Brilliant arrangements by Sneha Khanwalkar; the way Amit Trivedi joins in the singing is inspired. The lyrics top off this superb song that epitomises the film's bloodsoaked theme. -Ramanand It's been a while since revenge sounded this caustic yet not explicit. Sneha Khanwalkar and Amit Trivedi aim for the best duet of the year for sure. -Nishant Why? -Armeen Catchy , but that is about all. -Naresh SK doesn't pay a premium on hummability - that necessary quality for mass acceptance in India. It is the loss of masses. This is an accomplished song in terms of its sounds and arrangements. To get it though you have to get past the insanely non-hummable lines of Mishraji. -Subrat |

2.21 | Though the reduplication of 'english-vinglish' and other similar words can get a little monotonous towards the end of the song, this is a nice, peppy song that conveys new found zest with a Celtic melody married to a pop framework. -Ramanand There's a warmth to this song that perhaps has to do with the Hinglish lyrics. Peppy, upbeat and makes you smile. -Renu Makes you sit up and take notice, Sawanand Kirkire does a great job -Naresh Very average. -Aditya Cute lyrics, cute singing and nothing else. AT sounds more like Pritam here -Subrat Definitely a feather in Amit Trivedi's cap. The title song setting up the tone of the film. -Nishant 2012 was definitely Amit Trivedi's year. His star has risen like anything. -UVR Peppy! -Armeen Given the name of the film, English mixing is perhaps to be expected! कुल जमा अच्छा गीत -Vikas The lyrics and singing are good, but Amit Trivedi's arrangements make the most difference. -Harshit |

Average composition. I think there is case to be made for a blanket ban on similar sounding songs -Subrat The English lyrics are beyond cheesy and bring the song down. -Vikas Decent song, but what was the need for those English lines in between! -Aditya Salim-Sulaiman seem to have copied some parts from popular Hindi songs here. -Harshit Sung with some heart and has a repeat-factor attached to it. -Nishant This is a song made for Shafqat, and he does full justice for it. I would have preferred it didn't have Clinton Cerejo's English crooning in the middle of it. I love Clinton's voice. It's the English I can't get myself to like. -UVR |

Loved Manoj Tiwari's devil-may-care rendition, the lyrics and the arrangements. The harmonium that breaks the rhythm of the song and the chorus is a masterstroke. -Ramanand In the end falls short of expectations. -Naresh Rustic and earthy with just that hint of western influences! -Renu Interesting rendition of a folk song. Sneha Khanwalkar has a keen ear for different sounds and she adds a motley mix of them to Manoj Tiwary's rustic singing style. -Subrat Manoj Tiwari's singing is probably the best part of the song, which makes it so natural. -Harshit Beautifully blending modern flavor with the folk-ish flavor in this refreshing number. -Nishant Um, ok. -UVR |

2.13 | Sunidhi is comptent as always, but the lyrics (black mein khareedenge khushi hum) are too precious. -Shalini Catchy song, nice rhythm. Amitabh Bhattacharya tries to get into the Gulzar mould with limited success. -Aditya The alliterative nature of the song is well complemented by the musical arrangements. -Ramanand MD doesn't know what is meant by gunanunaanaa. -Vikas Earworm , has a catchy refrain, that stays on your lips long after. -Naresh An average song on all counts -Subrat Can't mark for choreography here. :) -Harshit This song reminded me of Shreya's “barso re megha” from Guru. Just like that song, this one left me fully underwhelmed and did not engage me one bit. -Manish One of Sunidhi's better works. Ajay-Atul adding a certain Maharashtrian flavor to this but not going over the top. Wonder why they could not find a better voice than Udit Narayan for the male vocals. -Nishant Fun, peppy - Sunidhi sounds good as usual, so does Udit Narayan (that was him, right?). -Armeen |

2.12 | Neeti Mohan's voice induces some life in this ordinary song going by ARR-Gulzar standards. -Nishant An interesting tune… wish they had stuck to the qawwali format all along. -Armeen It is an average composition by ARR standards though there are bits of wizardry with the violin. The singing passes the muster but hardly worth playing in the loop. -Subrat The song does grow on you, but is still very average. Gulzar's words have some nice thoughts, but end up sounding very clunky. The insertion of the protagonist's name at the most unlikely of places, just to fit the tune is embarassing. -Aditya Such a refreshing song, quintessentially Rehman too. -Vikas Autotune: Lose 2 points, do not pass go! 2.12 | Promising beginning, but gets awful quickly. -Ashok The only reason to listen to this is Nandini Srikar's voice and the use of "77". Pritam starts off good but then becomes loud. -Nishant The above average singing is truly the only saving grace of this song. Annoying orchestration – the overly westernized sounds should have been limited. Banal lyrics: if she has 75 “premi”s, why are 77 ishaare needed to win her affections, and not just 76? -UVR Here too Nandini Srikar puts to good use her solid classical base. -Vipin Genre wise this could be mujra meets rock meets club meets qawwali meets trance meets dance pop meets everything and the kitchen sink. But surprisingly it comes together quite nicely. -Renu Worth a second listen, some of the audio effects and other gimmicks during the interludes sound immature especially given the rest of the composition. -Vikas Not a bad attempt at reconstiuting the mujra, but not great either. -Shalini Interesting take on fusion qawaali, but the fusion element is too overwhelming -Aditya Energetic and well-sung, this is a decent modern attempt in a genre that hasn't been in vogue for a while. -Ramanand Preetam shows his mettle here and some outstanding singing by all. -Naresh Pritam reconstructs a mujra complete with harmonium and rubab. The traditionalist within me might wince at times but this is a fine modern interpretation. Nandini Srikar excels showing us another facet to her vocal talent -Subrat The experiment in music/genre is nice and well executed. -Harshit Bad lyrics :( -Neha |

I prefer the male solo version of this song, but that isn't the version nominated. -UVR Yet another bhatt-film song with nothing 'vishesh' -Aditya I don't think this is Shreya Ghoshal singing - the female voice is only thing notable about this song. KK has sung many such songs and Vishesh Films has given us similar numbers in the past. -Subrat Maybe the good music and singing make lyrics sound better despite all the attention. So even if lyrics aren't worth 3, they do sound worth that. Also, KK's singing is exceptionally well and it sounds like one of his best in the year. -Harshit |

2.10 | Shreya at her cloyingly-sweet-and-insincere best… gratuitous sargam/english lyrics - yet again... very forgettable on the whole. -Armeen One of the better songs of the year. The tune progression is appealing, as is the singing by Shreya. -Aditya The song gets an extra half a point because I can't get over how it was used in the film and for using the word Raabta. Shreya is dependable and the male voice (Arijit?) complements her well. -Subrat I'd give it a higher rating, but for the stupid English stuff. -Vikas The contrast between the song and the picturisation elevates the song further. -Manish The nursery rhyme style tune and singing didn't really work for me. -Shalini The song has a nice tempo and the USP of 'Raabta' but the earsore Arijit Singh spoiling what Hamsika manages to build. -Nishant I personally love the singing and arrangements of Night in the Motel version the most and have marked keeping that song too in mind. -Harshit This song only works because of the singing. And a very sprightly singing by young Durga. -Vipin Made, sung and written for a chase sequence. Very resourceful and imaginative pick to get to sing it as well. -Nishant A bit too cacophonus. -Manish This is crazy stuff. Experimentation at its best -Vinayakam Annoying! -Shalini Next, please! -Aditya 12 YO Durga is the only attraction in this song. -Naresh It is difficult to keep track of SK's clever techno arrangements while that kid keeps you entranced with that shrill pitch. It is a song that drains you -Subrat The raw singing gets a 3.5. Maybe it's the novelty or the editing of that singing, but it does impact one. -Harshit |

2.08 | Javed Akhtar ruins a beautiful song with the lyrics. They should have retained the Malayalam original -Vinayakam The lyrics belong to another song! -Aditya Seems like ARR was listening to a lot of Pink Floyd before he composed this. Nothing ARR about it. -Manish I don't get it (despite the Bageshri overtones). :( -Armeen Interesting in many ways, esp. Sanskritized lyrics; on scrutiny they don't hold up well, but good effort. Catchy tune, but some kitchen sink also. -Vikas It's been a loooonnng time since I've enjoyed a Rahman song this much. The lyrics don't make much sense but the composition is beautifully crafted. -Shalini Rehman does a good tune but Javed Akhtra does nothing to add value, singing is fine. Shreya version better. -Naresh I have heard the original and for some reason the song doesn't crossover into Hindi film easily. It's a beautiful composition in its original avatar. Maybe it is the forcefitting of Hindi words that ruins it -Subrat Its not a sound I associate with ARR. Don't recollect him venturing into a Dire Straits/Deep Purple/Floyd type of sound before. But I am glad he did. -Renu Reminds me too much of Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here -Amit What a fantastic song … in the original Tamil/Malayalam version. It leaves me completely out of breath every single time I hear it. The vocals are at once powerful and plaintive, perfect for this song. Much has been said about how Rahman has worked wonders with the Bageshri raag-based tune. Where “Bolo Na” puts the raag front and center, this song uses the raag under a heavy disguise. All that said, the lyrics of the Hindi version are an assault to the senses, making me dock a point from the overall score. -UVR |

Looks like the composers are rehashing their own songs. -Neha Too much "big sound" effect tried for my taste. Didn't like the singing quality either. -Ashok Rahat too slipping into Sonu's track of unncessarily complicating the singing by overdoing on embellishments. -Naresh I'm tired of this genre and tired of Raahat being Raahat. -Subrat Music gets just two because the song is almost a copy of Salim Sulaiman's own music for Dor. -Harshit Reminiscent of 'ye hausla' from Dor and just as lovely. -Renu |

Pritam has been inventive through the year and this is an excellent example of how he has taken the standard Sufi tune and played around it with electronic infusions. -Subrat The angsty Punjabi lyrics and the Bhangra-Rock fusion lend a poignacy and punjency to the song. Really grew on me. -Shalini Over-orchestrated - typical Pritam. -Nishant Maybe I'd care more if I listened to it in the context of the movie, but right now I am just eager to move on to the next one. -Armeen Good in parts, but messed up. -Vikas Soulful song but arrangement is noisy which is jarring. -Naresh A wonderful song, but sounds a little too noisy despite good arrangements. -Harshit |

The trumpets and the whistling are an especially nice touch. -Shalini Good opportunity squandered largely. -Naresh Brilliantly orchestrated. Amit Trivedi maintaining his hallmark. Faintly reminding of "Bare necessities". -Nishant Another oversmart nursery rhyme! -Armeen Slightly interesting lyrics, easy on the ears, but nothing great. -Aditya Haven't I heard this before from Amit Trivedi? It's a good tune but it is lazy work from Amit Trivedi and seems like a leftover from Aisha. The only word I could make out in the song was "yaariyaan" and "Ooooo" -Shalini Disappointing! -Naresh This is familiar Pritam territory and he is aided by some good male vocals. -Subrat Cliched. -Vinayakam |

1.87 | Slightly loud, otherwise a wonderful track in all aspects. -Naresh Formula love song. Nothing special but always works. -Nishant Adequate, but boring. -Vikas A typical Bhatt product! Nice, but nothing unique. -Aditya |

1.85 | Standard-issue "uplifting" number; inoffensive but unremarkable. -Shalini A little more of the usual Amit Trivedi. I love Shilpa Rao from the time Amit Trivedi used her in Aamir. He still brings the best out of her -Subrat Can't differentiate between the songs of this film! -Aditya Though the different arrangements are hooking, the melody of the song makes it more long lasting. -Harshit Vishal Dadlani probably had a good year singing than composing. -Nishant Trivial song. -Ashok Better song of this otherwise not so shining album. -Naresh Feels heavily “inspired”, but can't say from where. Nonetheless, I like this song! -UVR |

1.82 | Excepting the crescendo in Antra-s, the song is well made. -Naresh Some tunes have KK written all over them. Then KK sings them and shows you why they have KK written all over them. I have no doubt this song is making it into the “Best of KK” albums that will undoubtedly begin getting compiled in 2-5 years' time. -UVR This reminds me a lot of 'bheegi bheegi' from Gangster. And Rajesh Roshan. Which is a strange combo. But it works. -Renu The base melody is very reminiscent of the 90s (and I am no longer sure if that is good or bad). -Armeen Ordinary. -Vikas The pain given a pop/rock perspective but lacking a strong punch -Nishant Nothing remarkable. -Aditya Average. Jeet Ganguly had promised a lot but didn't deliver in 2012. -Subrat I am sure there are people who love this kinda songs, but for me so much yelling and noise in a song, take away from the mood. -Neha |

1.82 | Catchy tune. -Ashok I love many intangibles about the song, like the vibe and feel, but it’s the Spanish guitar and Shalmali's voice that seal the deal. (Hey I rhymed!) -Renu A slightly catchy tune with the same old auto-tuned voices (so 2011!) and nothing more. -Armeen Nice dance number that would last for the year in party circuits! -Vikas NO COMMENT. -Nishant Just about average. -Aditya Catchy tune but forgettable in the long run. -Subrat |

1.81 | I have heard the original and for some reason the song doesn't crossover into Hindi film easily. It's a beautiful composition in its original avatar. Maybe it is the forcefitting of Hindi words that ruins it -Subrat ARR avargaLe: enough already with the autotune “effect”! -UVR Perfect example of how average lyrics and ordinary music cannot make a good song even if the voices singing it are good -Nishant Arrangements of the song, dreamy in the texture, are beautiful, and make the most of the song alongwith the singing. -Harshit Controversy over this trivial song! -Vikas Love the tune. -Vinayakam It lost me at the English lyrics. The repetition of "hossaanaa" is beautifully done though. -Shalini |

1.78 | Yet another bhatt-film song (this itself should become a genre), but worth a few listens. -Aditya Really liked the mukhda and points for using "musalsal". -Shalini musalsal! again! -Neha Trivial. -Vikas This song is all Javed Ali. Nothing more to recommend. -Subrat Javed Ali's vocals transforming the face of the song and giving it a repeat factor. -Nishant |

1.75 | Routine fare both from Pritam and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. -Nishant I wasn't really missing Rahat, but he's tolerable in qwaalish set-ups like this. -Shalini Rahat Fateh Ali Khan's voice sounds unusually 'harsh' in the song. -Aditya Thankfully, there are fewer 'sufi-pop' songs featuring Raahat Fateh Ali Khan compared to a few years ago. This song is another cliched addition to this genre. -Ramanand I may find pasta and sushi exciting occasionally, but I admit, nothing comforts me like daal-roti (even if a bit stylized). -Armeen Awful. -Manish I can no longer make out one Vishesh film from another or one Vishesh sooundtrack from another -Subrat RFAK seems a little off here. -Renu The song itself is pretty decent, par for the course for RFAK, but those digitized “hoy!”s are just plain annoying! 1.66 | I didn't understand the point of this song at all. It's too slow by half to be a “dance/item” number, too flippant and noisy to be anything else. -UVR Nice integration of melody and rhythm and the Middle-Eastern flavored orchestration was a nice change. If only Mohit C wasn't doing the singing. -Shalini Nice catchy tune, good use of original sounds ( as against electronic sounds) in arrangement. Adequately sung. -Naresh More auto-tuning. -Armeen The middle eastern touches are the high point of the song. Mohit Chauhan starting to sound the same everytime implying the over usage of his vocals for just about every soundtrack. -Nishant It is an average track with only the signing going for it. The Arabic/West Asian flavor isn't novel enough for it to be remembered -Subrat The Arabian influences coupled with Mohit Chauhan's lovely high-notes work beautifully. -Renu |

1.55 | One more rendition with 'ecstasified' voices! -Armeen Ali Zafar trying to wear too many hats at the same time. Doesn't always work. -Nishant Just an assortment of sounds. -Vikas Easy listening, but doesn't stay on. -Aditya An average track. -Subrat I was surprised to find myself liking this song. I guess you CAN teach an old dog new licks ;-) Neither singer is a superlative practitioner of the art of singing, but the combination somehow worked for me. -UVR |

-Armeen The only interesting feature in the song is the use of the word 'pu.ngii'. -Manish Had me laughing and tapping my foot. -Shalini Doesn't warrant a second listen. -Aditya Typical drunk Mika song. -Nishant Mika does a decent job in this peppy dance number. -Naresh One of my 2 year old's favourites. I hate it. :) -Vinayakam Barring the beat and the percussion, the song did nothing for me. Mika is tiresome with his usual nasal pitch. -Subrat Takes into account the fact that the song is copied. Have marked relatively based on that. -Harshit YUCK! -Neha aise gaano.n ne Hindi film sangeet kii pungii bajaa rakhii hai! -UVR |

1.32 | Niraasha waala disappointment. -Subrat The lyrics are really weird. Using inane expressions line ishq wala love, waise wala love or even surkh wala with interesting words like "ittila" and meaningful expressions like jhaanke baadlon ke peechhe se totally jars. Despite the horrible lyrics, this soft, romantic song works to an extent. -Aditya Where is the toothpaste (or the message from Met Life)? One more song that should have been a jingle. -Armeen Most childish and idiotic lyrics in a song in all of 2012. -Karthik Pointless song. -Ashok Ridiculous lyrics. -Vinayakam Lyrics and singing that are nothing but ordinary and just do not make any sense. -Nishant Besides the annoyance of the redundant 'ishq waala love' phrase, this is a lovely song. -Renu Seriously? It is exactly the rubbish that helps you run to a 9-minute mile beat. -Subrat Can't deny that it is addictive. Sort of a guilty pleasure. -Aditya Unremarkable earworm of a song that is worth investigating only for its strange/novel juxtaposition of a 'hookah bar' with 'pyaar'. -Ramanand OSTRACIZE Reshammiya! -Nishant Pass. -Shalini Dance rhythms are addictive. -Naresh Addictive quality of the song and the arrangements is all that get the song its rankings.
