Great melody and arrangement, but terrible singing. -Anup
Parineeti’s got a “girl next door” voice, nothing great, but competent. 3 for her singing, and 1 extra point for how genuine she sounds. I actually did love the song. -UVR
कौसर ने इस बरस जो कई अच्छे गीत लिखे हैं--ये उनमें से एक है। जज्बात खूब उभारे हैं उन्होंने। इस बरस के हासिल गानों में एक। -Yunus
Pleasantly surprised to hear Parineeti Chopra. She can make a career as a singer as well. -Vaishali
I like the slight huskiness of Parineeti's voice and the languid melody which allows for a recitation style of singing plays to her strenghts. -Shalini Razdan
It's great that both the music dirs. and singer have understood the singer's voice/ range/ limitations and created a song to suit all those. -Meera
Break up song of the year. -Nishant
Tune seems a bit of a throwback...bored singing early, but gets better. -Sanjeev
Workmanlike melody perhaps made for a specific cinematic context. -Arun Simha
Not only did Parineeti attempt singing, who would have thunk that she'd actually be decent at it!. -Megha
Nostalgic. -Zafar
Sachin - Jigar's may have made their name with party songs but their penchant for ghazals proves that they're not a one-trick pony. I knew Parineeti was a decent singer but I must say was pleasantly surprised by how well she sang this song. I am not sure if this was her regular register but her low pitched singing renders a certain "wazan" to the song. -Param
Good to hear a ghazal composition but leaves you largely underwhelmed. -Arun Verma
The lyrics are very evocative of a sense of longing, they almost make you feel like you are no longer close to someone you used to be. The singing is quite good, too. -Omkar
In Maana ke hum yaar nahin, Parineeti Chopra sounds earnest enough to carry the lovely ghazal’ish melody. But earnestness alone doesn’t seem enough, as is quite evident from multiple points in the song. That there is also a duet version of the same song featuring the inimitable Sonu Nigam (along with Parineeti) only accentuates the earlier, solo version’s shortcoming, in comparison. -Karthik
